Support your immunity with good habits
With the rise in ever-changing and unpredictable threats associated with infections, more and more people are looking for effective ways to boost their immunity.
One of the most efficient ways to strengthen your immunity is to develop and practice a set of positive habits. Incorporating these habits into your daily routine can make all the difference between having a strong or a weak immune response. Read on a list of good habits that can help you to boost your immunity!
Take it easy
Constant stress can lead to a weakened immunity, according to science1 . Many people often underestimate the impact emotions and feelings have on our overall well-being. The fact remains, however, that along with nutrition and sleep, psychological stress is also another key factor linked with the state of your immunity2 . This is exemplified through the times in our life when we fall sick after an intense emotional experience, or a prolonged and taxing project. This is attributed to stress, which makes us more susceptible to catching infections.
Take up exercising
Just like the saying ‘a sound mind in a sound body’, it is a well-established fact that regular physical activity can help to boost your immunity and help you avoid infections3. If you are already an active person, then exercising more rigorously will not necessarily have a bigger impact on your immunity. But if you aren’t very active to begin with, you can start out with strength training exercises, a slow jog, or even brisk walking several times a week. As time progresses, your immunity will slowly develop in strength and help you to fight off infections better. What are you waiting for, people? Work it!
Take medication only as prescribed by your doctor
It has to be pointed out that medications which can boost your immune system do exist. At the same time, certain medications that can significantly weaken your immune system, such as antibiotics, are also available. Unfortunately, under certain circumstances, they are impossible to avoid. Because of their impact on our bodies, antibiotics should only be taken as prescribed by your doctor. More importantly, it is advisable for you to stick to the recommended treatment dosage and duration.
Eat a healthy diet
Yes, we’ve mentioned a healthy diet previously, but it still deserves its own individual point altogether. Nutrition strongly affects your body’s immune response2, so make a habit out of eating healthy and unprocessed fresh foods. Additionally, make fruits and vegetables a large part of your daily meals. Be also aware that balancing your alcohol and sugar consumption is equally important in maintaining the robustness of your immunity. The excessive consumption of sugar can compromise your immunity, whereas a high alcohol consumption level can make it even more difficult for your body to fend off various infections. It is important to remember that healthy foods supplement your body with the energy and micronutrients it needs to fight infections and viruses. And since you’re already eating healthy, why not take up cooking healthy also while you’re at it?
Supplement your body with essential vitamins and minerals
It is especially important to note that stress, physical hardships and your job can exhaust your body and put your immunity under strain. Situations like these call for a little bit of outside help in the form of essential vitamins and minerals. The best way to ensure a sufficient intake is by eating a healthy diet that consists mainly of fruits and vegetables. However, if you think that you are not getting enough micronutrients, consider taking a supplement, which helps to strengthen your immunity with a boost of vitamins and minerals.
Stay positive
Think positive, and your immunity will in turn, positively fight off any potentially harmful infections. We kid you not! Boosting your immunity has more to do with your intuition than you know (and we all know that positive people can achieve more!). It is the same with good habits you’ve developed to strengthen your immunity. As a matter of fact, positive thinking can also promote positive changes in other areas of your life as well, so get to changing your mindset, pronto!
Now that you’re equipped with the knowledge of how to strengthen your immunity, incorporate these six simple habits and you will not have to worry about catching an infection every other month any longer.

How Vitamins & Minerals
Help to Support
Your Immunity
Your body is equipped with powerful natural defenses and your immune system has many ways of dealing with daily immunity challenges such as pollution, weather changes, being in crowded places; and unhealthy lifestyle, such as poor diet and smoking. The human body’s immune system is made up of three main defense mechanisms - physical barriers (skin and mucosa), cellular barriers (white blood cells) and antibodies. Nutrients such as vitamins and minerals are essential to the health and function of this complex network.
Living in a fast-paced world that includes on-the-go fast food and pre-cooked meals, it can sometimes be challenging to consume an adequate amount of fruits and vegetables daily, which in turn can help to provide your body with the essential vitamins and minerals it needs to fully support bodily functions. What’s worse, an inadequate intake of vitamins and minerals can instead negatively affect your immune system, and damage your health.
